Disappointed at being unable to get any refreshments after the good breakfast until 17:30 each day. No lounge facilities either. Bar is not very welcoming, being situated in breakfast room. Overall, poor facilities for a four star hotel, but room was well furnished, quiet and very clean.

Extremely impressed with our three-night stay at this upscale hotel. Modern-contemporary decor. Beautiful JR Suite accommodations overlooking garden area with balcony. Rooms very clean, bright and spacious with room safe, bathrobe, slippers and complementary coffee and tea, along with mini bar options. Bed and pillows most comfortable. Excellent water pressure for showering. Bottled water unnecessary as tap water at hotel is filtered. Free in-room Internet access with own computer - a real bonus!! Staff very friendly, helpful and pleasant. Extensive variety of breakfast foods and beverages (i.e. scrambled and hard boiled eggs, bacon, sausage, cheeses, cold cut meats, breads, croissants, crackers, jellies, cakes, cereals, fruits, yogurt, coffee, tea, juices, milk, etc). Enjoyed having silent TV on in background of dining room while eating breakfast to catch highlights of world news. Particularly enjoyed fact that hotel was about 30 min walk from St. Mark's Square - far from "hustle" of downtown; enjoyed walking back to hotel in evenings with spouse - very romantic - also walkway near hotel is along a park ground which is lined with jasmine flowers (beautiful and aromatic scent permeates the air as you walk by). Very quiet and remote location of this property at end of island (great for privacy). Regular and ongoing vaporetta services available to take you up/down the Grand Canal, St. Mark's Square, Rialto Bridge, etc. Truly the best of our three Italian city hotel stays - would definitely return again!!

the hotel is out of the hustle of venice, which we enjoyed. it's only a 20 minute, beautiful walk along the water or a 5 minute water taxi ride to St. Mark's. The staff is excellent, as is the breakfast. The rooms are modern and spacious. I highly recommend.

very nice, modern, design of rooms. reasonable size. clean, new. good breakfast. only down side is distance from center of city. during the day its not a problem since vaporetto runs every few minutes but if you stay at the city for dinner, than after 8pm or so vaporetto is less frequent, around 10 pm its every 30 min.

Great hotel experience. Newly renovated and excellent room. Good wireless internet access (and room safe big enough for laptop). Location is about 20 mins stroll from P. San Marco, but 5 minutes walk from Sant'Elena Vaporetto stop, with frequent service in both directions. 9 mins to San Marco, 10 mins to Lido. In a non-tourist area location, which was quiet and had excellent local cafes for a quick (and comparatively inexpensive) bite. Would definitely stay again.

I would highly recommend this hotel. It was so lovely to stay on the quieter island and it was beautiful. The walk to the main areas of Venice was lovely and not too long at all. With all the sights and bars and shops along the way it was always a pleasant outing and just wonderful coming back to the hotel. There was also a wonderful pizza cafe a few steps away from the hotel.

The hotel is very nicely situated at the end of the island of Venice and ideally if you are visiting the Bienale. It is in a quiet neighbourhood without many tourists, but with wide streets, parks and playgrounds. The walk to San Marco takes approx 25 minutes, but the walk next to the Canal gives you the time to breath and relax compared to the very crowded city center. The hotel has very large rooms, especially compared to what you normally get in Venice. It is more a business type of setting, so you have all the luxuries, but not the typical Venice style. The advantage is also that you pay less than in the city center. Overall, we can certainly recommend this hotel.

the hotel location and facilities were very good and as described. The only thing that was not really the standard we would have expected was the food this was poor. The staff were also a little frosty but that may just be venetians !

The Sant'Elena was everything we expected it to be. Being located at the end of the island gives you the opportunity to relax and escape the crowds of St Marks and still be only a 20 minute walk from all of the attractions. I would defiantly visit this hotel again.

The hotel is a bit far from the train station, but is easy to commute by vaparetto. The room is spacious and clean, and buffet breakfast served is fantastic. We enjoy the place being away from the crowd for some peace at night. The staff are all very helpful and fluent in English. The price is a bit expensive, but still not a bad deal as Venice hotels are expensive mostly. We would recommend this to anyone.

The hotel is located away from the main square which provided a nice and quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the tourist crowd and main center. We enjoyed that very much and the water boats transportation made it easy for us. Our stay was 4 1/2 days. Highly recommend this hotel.

Reserved room in advance and checked in at 10pm. Room was not clean at all. Had not been vacuumed, and the carpet had several cigareete burns in it and several large dirty stains. The bathroom floor was very sticky. Bathroom mirror had a splatter of a sticky spots all over it - really gross. I washed floor a bit myself with towels as I had a child with me. Drinking glasses in bathroom were wrapped in plastic but had not been washed first. Had obvious toothpaste and other residue on them. Bed was not professionally made - looked like the last guest had made it. I asked front desk man for clean drinking glasses but could not have room cleaned so late at night. Asked next morning when we went for breakfast. Dirty glasses were wiped sort of and left there - unuseable - this was gross. Clean glasses I received the night before were taken away! No apologies from anyone and the room never was vacuumed and the disgusting substance splattered on mirror was still there when we checked out. For 200 euros per night I expect a clean room. Should not have to ask but even when I did it was not well attended.

Sehr schwacher Service. Versorgungslage (Läden, Bar, usw.) in unmittelbarer Hotelnähe schlecht, reines Wohnviertel mit großem Park. Zum Schiff schwellenlos in 3 Minuten zu Fuß.

Excellent hotel, comfortable bed; large rooms, large bathroom, AWESOME BREAKFAST, vaporeto stop 2 minutes away; Plaza San Marcos 25 minute walk. Every night my wife and I would walk back to the hotel from San Marcos, very romantic walk. his was the only hotel in Europe that did not use keys, but key-cards; additionally, you had to inset the key-card in a reader in the wall for the lights and TV to work. The only problems were that one morning we got woken up by the whistle of some king of ship and that you could not change the temperature in the room, that was the reason I had to open the windows and therefore was woken up by the noise.

We, three sisters, were very happy to stay there. It's a quiet and excellent hotel. As Venice is not so big, the location is perfect. All employees of the hotel were very helpful and friendly. As we arrived very early in the morning we stored our luggage during the day and coming back in the evening they all were already transported to our room. Breakfast was perfect. If quality will not decrease and price will not rise up too much, we will stay there again. We recommend Hotel Sant'Elena to every other visitors.

This is an American-style hotel with large, clean, modern rooms. It is located near the end of the island, relatively far from the main attractions, although it is very close to the Sant'Elena water bus stop. This is a plus or a minus depending on your tastes. The location affords some quiet and freedom from crowds, but requires some travel. The only true negative is that the surrounding area is a bit run down. The hotel itself, though, is beautifully kept.

This was my 6th trip to Venice and the 8th hotel I've stayed in (one trip I stayed in 3 different hotels - don't ask!) This is definitely the nicest hotel I've found in Venice yet. For the price I don't think you'll find a better place.

Perfect for a stay in a 'local area' if you like to get away from the centre as this area is very quiet. However you do not get a true feel for staying in the centre of a place such as Venice and would suggest a more central location for your stay. Cannot fault the hotel though, and the breakfast buffet is excellent. Staff not overly friendly and not very responsive to questioning! Also takes more like half and hour to walk into centre not the twenty minutes suggested. River bus takes about 15 minutes.

Thoroughly enjoyed the location although the walk to St Marks Square took longer than the 15 mins suggested on the website. However, the lush green surroundings and the weather more than made up for it. Breakfast was superb with the staff more than happy to provide capuccinos and breakfast on the terrace. Great selection. The only downside was that I had requested a garden room ahead of time (by phone) and this hadn't been noted on the booking. Very helpful and accommodating staff. We will be back!

As a group of four friends on a few days break to Venice, we had found it difficult to book two twin rooms. This hotel gave us just what we needed, except we would have liked the rooms next to each other. The junior suits fitted our requirements very well. The beds were so comfortable. This is a very pleasent neighbourhood to stay in.We would all have liked fresh fruit, not tinned, prepared at breakfast, but it was provided in a bowl.

Location is not at all that far away from the center, 8 mins vaporetto or 20 min walking and it's worth it, very quiet neighbourhood. Hotel ratings in Italy are horrible but this is the closest to a 4 star hotel for European standards, many others 4 stars in Venice are simply overpriced and mediocre. If you book in advance you might be able to get a bigger room than the standard ones, just ask for it. I chose this one because of all the feedback people wrote and I'm very glad I did! Enjoy a magical stay in Venice!

This was my fourth visit to Venice and I have stayed in other hotels which were very good but I will definitely stay at the Sant Elena again. I could wax lyrical about the calmness of the surroundings away from the hustle of Venice centre and close to the lovely Venice Giardini (public gardens), the cleanliness of the bedrooms and all public rooms, the general decor which is quite modern and minimalist where other Venetian hotels I've stayed in are a bit 'fussy', the pleasant staff and the truly sumptuous breakfast (cereals, fresh fruit, bacon and eggs, cheese and cold meats, yoghurts, toast, croissants, doughnuts, cakes -you name it they offered it!!) - didn't have to eat again until dinner!! The hotel is very easy to find from the Sant Elena vaporetta stop which is only 3 stops from St Mark's Square and there are a number of lines you can take so we never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a boat. It is also very easy to get from the airport - The Alilaguna water bus stops at Lido and then it is one stop by vaporetta across the lagoon to Sant Elena. The only issue was that, having booked a junior suite and a single room, when we got there they had allocated us a 'family' room. It was fine, the single having a double interconnecting door and, for 3 close friends we did not have any difficulties with this arrangement. Also, on discussing this with the hotel staff when checking out, they immediately made a reduction on the overall cost - excellent service. Can't wait to go back. Well done Sant Elena.

What a beautiful hotel, location, room, staff and value for money excellent. We arrived at about 6 and it was such a quiet area compared to San Marco which is only a 15 min walk along the quay with the beautiful skyline ahead of you. The hotel staff were welcoming and helpful at all times. Rooms were lovely, very well decorated and quiet, if you book ask for rooms overlooking the gardens. Breakfast was very well laid out having most things on offer. We had a fantastic few days in Venice and Sant' Elena made the trip. Thank you....

The hotel was very clean and the welcome very gracious. Everyone spoke English and they were very knowlegable with all of our questions regarding water taxis, etc. The only real problem was the confusion on how to get there....the vaporetto was so crowded, and we had so much luggage.....(we won't be so foolish next time) that we missed our stop because we couldn't carry the luggage up from the bottom of the taxi in the time it stopped....very frustrating and exhausting!) Also, the elevators on the 1st floor would not work with both of our luggages, and were very slow to respond otherwise....so we ended up taking the stairs during our stay.....I guess we were impatient Americans! The room was cool and clean. The breakfast buffet was very nice. We would stay there again, but it is at the farther end from San Marcos plaza.....a very healthy walk, to say the least!!!!

Although hotel is away from the main attractions, it was very easy to get to all the section of Venice because the vaporetto is so accessible. As an airline pilot I am fortunate (sometimes..) to stay in many hotels around Europe - our visit to Venice on this occasion was purely for holiday. Hotel St 'Elena, located on the main island a few minutes from St Mark's Square was EXCELLENT for the class and level of hotel (Italian 4*). It was very well located in that it is NOT immediately in the vicinity of the tourist heavy St Mark's, but a reasonably short and attractive 25 min waterfront walk from the centre of Venice - or two stops (8 mins) on the water bus. The water bus stop (St Elena) is 2 mins from the hotel - no steps/bridges for luggage either! The rooms are spacious and relatively contemporary - a pleasant alternative to the cramped pseudo-gilt 'heavy' Venetian style of all other hotels I have seen in Venice. Well sound proofed and kept immaculately clean. One of the main attractions is a very well kept central garden area, surrounded by the hotel (a recently converted Convent) and provides a wonderful haven from a day of hot footing it around the city. Comfortable padded wooden loungers/chairs provided - no plastic rubbish so often seen. Breakfast can be taken in the garden as well. Staff are friendly and attentive - good English spoken by Main Front Desk staff and most helpful too with booking restaurants/ recommendations as well. All in all, Hotel St 'Elena made our 4 day visit to Venice -- thoroughly recommended --- in fact 6 of us are going back there in December! Well done St 'Elena - and venere.com for efficient web booking and competitive pricing. PS One or two final recommendations: 1. Ask for Garden facing rooms and ideally a Junior Suite - price difference well worth it 2. Travelling from the Airport to Venice? Firstly buy a 1,2 or 3 day unlimited Vaporetti (Water Bus Ticket) - you'll use it a lot 3. If you can go by water TAXI (nor water bus) from the Airport direct to the Hotel. Price difference for 4 people ~ 20€ and worth every cent. 25 mins high speed tran

I normally wouldn't fill these things in but I found other people's comments on Venere to be most useful so here goes ... Excellent cost effective place to stay in Venice. Very easy to get into San Marco ( 20 minute walk or water bus every 10 minutes ). Breakfast was as expected with a very nice garden outside whilst rooms were as described. Staff very welcoming - only gripe ( which was mainly our own fault !! ) would be directions once you get off the ferry from the airport. If you've walked for 10 minutes you've gone too far and turn back. Overall a very good value for money choice and I'd have no problem recommending it.

This is gem of a hotel! Located away from the madding crowds of central Venice, the Sant'Elena is an oasis of quiet in a section of town where real Venetians actually live. We appreciated the quieter pace and the chance to watch Venetian families relax in the beautiful park. The only disadvantage is perhaps that there are not a lot of restaurants close by, but the little Da Pampo which is just around the corner is quite welcoming. I would recommend this hotel enthusiastically and would not hesitate to return there.

Probably the best hotel we've ever stayed in, certainly the best in Italy. When we walked into our suite my wife panicked that I may have got the price wrong, and that I'd been quoted for one night, rather than three!

Sant'Elena was a little gem. Delighted we stayed away from the centre in a venetian area with real venetian people. The hotel was excellent and you would be hard pushed to find anything similar for the price. We did have a junior suite which was not significantly more expensive and very spacious. The employees are really helpful. The location of the hotel is also very convenient in order to be quiet AND at short distance from airport/Lido and major vaporeto lines. I will certainly return here with my family ...in a bigger room.

Our stay at santa elena was exellent from the very begining and till the very end!!! The hotel is very nice. the room is spacious and very well furnished. the hotel location is also very very nice though it is situated a bit out of the center we did not really feel it as the hotel is situated in the lovely very beautiful romantic and quite park. I would say that we even benefited by staying in the park as we did not feel the pressure of crowds of tourists. And besides Venezia is very small town and to get to the center it takes you about 20 minutes by foot which is perfectly normal especially when it is sunny. We are really happy with our staying at santa elena and would definetely come back there!!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel and rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. We had two rooms, both overlooking the gardens and one with a view over a canal and out over the lagoon. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was nice to get away from the crowds at night. Breakfast plentiful, but we would have expected a better choice from a 4* hotel. There is not a restaurant, but the local restaurant (facing the waterbus stop)is friendly, good prices and good sized portions -the menu is mainly pizzas, with an excellent selection. It is a nice walk into town, or catch the water buses to most locations from the nearest stop.

Great Hotel, just 3 stops on the vaporetto from St Mark's Square. Good quiet location lovely rooms and a good buffet breakfast.

We enjoyed a lot our stay to this Hotel. The Insel of Santa Helena is very quiet with a lot of green. The hotel is modern decorated and very clean. It was very easy to find. The vaporetto stop is very close and you only need about 8 minutes to the Piazza of San Marco. We would definetelly stay there again!!!

In a wonderful, "non-touristy" area right at the very end of Venice proper. Perfect place to escape from all the madness of Venice day-trippers. Very close to vaporetto stop (5 minute walk), three vaporetto stops from St. Mark's, one vaporetto stop from Lido. Staff was very welcoming and friendly and rooms were very modern and clean. Would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you wanted to get away from all the madness of St. Mark's.

The Hotel is well situated in a quiet part of Venice, only a 15-20 minute scenic walk to San Marco Square though there is a boat stop near the hotel that allows for a lazier option.. the hotel rooms are not that big but they are well kept and quite comfortable.

A little bit off the beaten track and a long walk at night to find a place to eat. The hotel offers an excellent room at less than the price you would expect for Venice. The only fault was that the resaurant was not open for an evening meal and the local restaurant was booked out by a large tour group (staying at Sant Elena)- it must be a favourite for tour groups.

We loved everything about the Sant Elena Hotel. The location in the quiet neighborhood with a couple of minutes walk through the beautiful park to the vaparatto landing, or the 15-20 minute walk to San Marco Piazza. it was better than we expected. We have been traveling through Europe for the last 2 months. This has been one of our better experiences. Venere has been a big help selecting hotels for this trip. We still have 1 more month to go & will keep using venere.com The feedbacks have been very important to my wife & I, & that is the only reason we are filling this out. Normally I wouldn't do this.

The room was very quiet, clean and warm (it was january!). Good breakfast and kind employees. Only 15 minutes in vaporetto from San Marco. If I came back to Venice I would repeat the hotel.

This hotel was a great find - outside the centre of the city, but a very pleasant 15 minute walk to St Mark's, or a minute's walk to the vaporetto stop that will get you anywhere! The hotel itself was very high quality - all the facilities you could want and the staff were friendly and helpful. My only criticism would be that the breakfast room/bar was quite cold (I was there in January) and not too comfortable for relaxing in. However, that's just a minor thing and did not detract from the overall quality of the hotel.

The hotel was a very good choice. We paid 65 Euro a day for a double room which costs about 350 Euro maximum. Excellent relationship between the price and the quality. Very friendly staff. Only the breakfast was the same every day, there were no variations unfortunately. All together I can recommend this hotel!

the hotel rooms are great but the breakfast and staff are disappointing. the location is a little out of the way but that adds to the charm. if you want to be in the thick of it this is not the hotel for you. all in all i would stay here again

We have had a very very nice weekend in venice. Location was wonderful. The walk to inner city was nearly short and it was a wonderful sight to walk along the water front. In a short distance from the hotel (ca. 150 m) was a very nice italian pizza restaurant with delightful pizza etc. for low prices. Hotel St. Elena could be advised to everyone!

Excellent hotel valuing quality vs. price. Newly renovated, the decoration is very modern and warm. Only 10 min. by vaporetto from St. Marco Square, and next to a beautiful park. If we come back to Venice we will choose this hotel again.

Fantastic location, hotel and city. Could not imagine a better place to stay in venice due to it being away from the tourist crowds. Only 15 - 20 min from san marco on the water bus. dont hesitate just book it.

Fantastic hotel, fantastic location, fantastic holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sant'Elena and especially appreciated the fact we could escape the crowds and hustle bustle of the tourist crowds at the end of the day. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to avoid the normal tourist traps as you get to see a whole new side of Venice other than St Mark's and the Grand Canal. The breakfast choice was also quite good for Italy! The only criticism is that there are not many restaurant and cafes to choose from at this end of the island, so be prepared to jump on a vaparetto or walk at least ten minutes to get a meal in the evening. Still that just gives you an excuse to have an extra course as you'll be able to walk it off on your way back to the hotel!

An excellent value hotel. It is modern and not to everyones taste.... but it is spacious clean and quiet. We found the staff all friendly and very helpful. Very close to the 'water stop' and we didn't have to drag our cases round Venice looking for our hotel. 20 - 25 mins walk from the main centre of St. Marks and what a fantastic walk it is along the 'promenade' with a great view of an approaching Venetian skyline.

I can't imagine a better deal in Venice. Sant'Elena is a 20-25 min to St. Mark's Square but it was worth it stay in a true four star hotel at a fraction of what it would cost near the tourist center of Venice. The neighborhood is quiet and charming. You can always jump on the water bus if you don't feel like walking to or from St. Mark's Square. The hotel is only 2-3 min from the bus stop. We'll stay there again if we return to Venice. No complaints.
